Exposure to English begins long before children enter school or a language institute. In everyday life, children come into contact with English through games, songs, videos, and digital media. For this reason, it is not necessary for students to attend many hours of lessons from a very young age or spend years in preliminary levels such as Junior classes. For most children, English is already a familiar environment.
We therefore recommend starting a more organized and targeted approach to learning in the third grade of primary school. At this stage, students are able to organize and systematize the knowledge they have already acquired, enrich it meaningfully, and within a year, smoothly transit into the first core learning class (A Class).
On average, a student needs 7 years of studying to achieve mastery (C2 level) in English.
Of course, you can. We teach English as a foreign language to a number of students of different linguistic backgrounds like China and India both at school and online. We usually advise foreign students to attend customised courses to fully accommodate their needs.
As a school we offer both. However, this is a decision to make with our teachers since the answer depends on the student’s learning profile and prospective goals.
There are many reasons why a child may become fearful of English (inadequate teaching, a dysfunctional classroom environment, a competitive atmosphere, excessive teaching hours). Our classes are designed with a primary focus on maintaining balance in relationships among students, between students and teachers, and between individualized expectations and the pace of achieving goals.
We do this because we believe that the sense of security a student feels, along with the cultivation of teamwork and group spirit, are the foundations of healthy education that also leads to the desired results.
The time a student needs to sit for IELTS/ TOEFL depends on the candidate's knowledge of English at the time and the score they need to achieve. On average, a student who has successfully passed a C2 level exam in the past two years, needs 3 to 6 months to prepare for these exams..
You do not need to prove your knowledge of English with a certificate in order to be eligible for IELTS/TOEFL. However, we strongly advise in favour of it. This is because these exams demand a mastery of the English language in order for candidates to achieve a good score.
The difference lies in the fact that IELTS/ TOEFL are certifications that can be considered valid for two years from the date of the exams. The purpose of these certifications is to prove a candidate’s knowledge of English at the time. On the other hand, a C2 English Certificate is an asset that can be used as proof of knowledge of English in your CV for both academic and professional purposes.
TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is an international standardised test mainly used for professional purposes that proves a non-native speaker’s knowledge at the time, based on their performance at two skills: Listening and Reading. It is considered a far friendlier form of testing one’s knowledge compared to any 4-skill certification or certificate and it usually corresponds to the criteria set for a domestic career in the private sector. The exams take place on a weekly basis. The exam does no longer correspond to the standards set by the Greek ASEP as proof of one’s knowledge of English.
Mr. Alex English Language School specialises in English. We do not offer any other language courses.
Of course, we do. Our school offers both online and hybrid (online and at-school) courses to suit your needs whether you have a tight schedule or live far away from our school. We also offer online classes to students who live in other countries.
The gap between understanding spoken language and producing it is usually the result of superficial language acquisition at an early age. Students who were pressured at a young age to speak English prematurely in order to “prove” they knew the language are often those who, later on, can understand and write English at a satisfactory level but struggle to respond effectively in real-time conversations in foreign environments.
The natural production of spoken language is, for the most part, a skill that develops more realistically and effortlessly in higher-level classes — in other words, when students possess the necessary vocabulary deposit required to express themselves beyond standardized question-and-answer patterns.
The IB (International Baccalaureate) is an internationally recognized high school diploma programme that serves as an alternative to the Greek Panhellenic examinations for studies abroad and, under certain conditions, in Greece. Students study six subjects from different academic areas, including a compulsory English course, such as IB English A: Language & Literature or IB English B: Language Acquisition.
English courses are offered at either SL (Standard Level) or HL (Higher Level), depending on the depth of study and number of teaching hours. English plays a particularly important role in the IB programme, as much of the coursework, text analysis, and examination work requires a high level of academic language proficiency.
Our language school offers specialized English courses designed to prepare students for the IB English B (Language Acquisition) and IB English A: Language & Literature examinations at both SL (Standard Level) and HL (Higher Level).
The courses focus on the substantial development of students’ linguistic and academic skills, with emphasis on reading comprehension, written and oral language production, text and literary analysis, and familiarization with the structure and assessment criteria of the International Baccalaureate examinations.
